Roofers in West Malling

Two very different roofscapes sit within a mile or so of each other here. West Malling's historic centre is a conservation area of Georgian and older buildings where handmade clay and Kent peg tile are the traditional coverings, roof planes are rarely true and replacement material has to be matched rather than substituted. A short distance away, Kings Hill has been built on the former RAF West Malling airfield since 1989 and now runs to several thousand homes, all modern, all under factory-made tile with dry-fix ridges, verges and manufacturer-specified fixings. The failure modes have almost nothing in common: one is about lost pegs, tired timber and consent, the other about components working loose and shallow pitches over garages and porches.
