Ready-mix concrete for floors in Chatham
If you are taking a Chatham terrace back to bare ground and laying a new floor, the concrete has to come through the front of the house and down a hill to get there. Kent Readymix arranges ready-mix concrete for floors across Chatham, for that job and for the dockside version of it.

Terraced ground floors and dockside slabs
The hillside terraces at Luton and Wayfield produce a steady flow of internal floor work. Old suspended timber floors replaced with a ground-bearing slab, kitchen and rear addition floors re-laid, and garage and store floors on plots where the ground steps down behind the house.
Chatham Maritime and Chatham Waters are the other half. Development on open dockside ground produces commercial and residential floors at proper scale, on sites where a vehicle reaches the building and there is room for successive loads.
Getting a floor into a house on a hill
A floor is poured into a structure that already exists, which is what separates it from every other pour, and in a Chatham terrace that structure sits on a slope with a street that has nowhere to stand.
The build-up is the same as anywhere: compacted sub-base, blinding, a damp-proof membrane lapped, taped and carried up to meet the damp-proof course, insulation where the building is heated, then the slab. The membrane is the part that goes wrong, and it costs almost nothing to get right and a great deal to put right afterwards.
Getting the concrete to it is the local problem. The vehicle stands on a narrow one-way street, parked both sides, holding a gradient, and the floor is through the front door and often a step or two below the road. A line pump run through the hallway is the usual answer, because it keeps the placement continuous and a floor that stops halfway has a joint through the middle of it. Mini-mix suits a small floor where a pump is not warranted, and neither applies at the dockside where a full mixer reaches the opening.
Before a Chatham floor is poured
Send the floor area and thickness, whether it is ground-bearing or suspended, and the route from the street to the room. Your quotation, delivery and payment are agreed directly with the approved supplier appointed to your pour.
Send the detail to hello@kentreadymix.co.uk and an approved supplier will confirm the mix, the volume and the delivery window.
