Sheerness carries an unusually industrial order book for a town of its size. The port, the dockyard and the steel industry generate commercial pours: yard slabs, hardstandings, machinery bases and building floors on ground designed for heavy plant.

One crossing, then two very different kinds of road
Everything that comes to Sheerness comes over a single crossing onto the island. That is an access fact rather than a timing one, and its practical consequence is that a delivery route is planned as one route with no alternative rather than as a choice between several.
