About this Area

About Margate

A Margate pour is planned backwards. You start from where a vehicle can legally stand, work out how the concrete travels from there to the work, and only then choose the delivery method. Kent Readymix arranges ready-mix concrete across Margate, where almost nothing takes a full-size mixer right to the pour.

Renovation, conversion and the Old Town

Margate’s concrete work follows its housing stock. Victorian terraces and Cliftonville flats are under heavy renovation and conversion, so the orders are internal floor pours, small structural bases, rear yard and garden slabs, and reinstatement work in buildings being brought back into use.

Alongside that, the seafront and the Old Town generate commercial work as premises change hands and change use. Volumes are modest, frequency is high, and the same access constraints apply to nearly all of it.

Density, not gradient, is the Margate problem

This is what separates Margate from Ramsgate along the same coast. Ramsgate’s difficulty is a gradient problem. Margate’s is a density problem.

The terraced streets are tightly packed and parked on both sides, which leaves no room for a large vehicle to stand and discharge even where it could physically drive through. The Old Town is narrower again. The seafront carries its own restrictions on where and when a vehicle can be.

Put together, that means the honest answer on most Margate jobs is a smaller vehicle, a planned and legal standing position, and a pumped or barrowed final stretch. Mini-mix is not a fallback here. It is often the primary option, and it is worth specifying at the point of enquiry rather than discovering on the day.

Placing a Margate order

Send a photograph of the street and the route to the pour if you can. On terraced streets that answers more questions than a written description does. Your quotation, delivery and payment are agreed directly with the approved supplier appointed to your pour. Send the detail to hello@kentreadymix.co.uk and an approved supplier will confirm the mix, the volume and the delivery window.
