Ready-mix concrete for slabs in Folkestone

Above the Leas the slabs come out of conversion work. Period buildings divided into flats need new internal floor slabs where a layout has changed, small structural bases, and terrace and garden pours behind properties that were never built to be used this way. The volumes are small and the tolerances are tight.

On the Shorncliffe land the slabs are new-build: oversite under new houses, garage bases, drive and path slabs, laid on plots with construction access and room to stand. Folkestone is the only coastal town we cover with a modern development of that size attached to it, which is why both patterns are genuinely true here at once.

Where the concrete stops and the barrow starts

The descent from the cliff top to the harbour zig-zags on roads laid out for a different kind of traffic, and in the creative quarter some of the lanes are stepped and cobbled. A stepped lane is not a narrow road. It is a route no vehicle enters, at any size.

That sets a hard pattern for old Folkestone slabs. A mini-mix vehicle gets as close as the road allows, and the last stretch is a barrow run or a line pump. Where the slab is a floor inside a converted building, the line pump usually wins, because a barrow route through a communal hallway limits how fast the slab can be fed and a slab that is fed slowly develops joints it was not designed to have.

On the Shorncliffe side none of this applies. A full mixer reaches the work, and where a slab sits back from the road a boom pump has room to set up.
